What A Difference A Week Makes

Nothing Succeeds Like Success

KTWV(The  Wave)/Los Angeles' rise in PPM continues -- and how! The station's three-month trend climbs dramatically by a full share -- 2.5-2.9-3.5 -- and now ranks fifth with cume approaching 1.9 million -- if I am not mistaken, the highest of its 23-year history. Remember, radio is a business and ratings propel its bottom line. We doff our hat in recognition of PD Jhani Kaye and the entire Wave staff for crafting an impressive turnaround.

Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch Migrates Online

After a decade as the on-air host of The Wave's hugely popular Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch, Barbara Blake has left the station. Highly rated since the format's genesis -- at KKSF/San Francisco, where she became late-PD Steve Feinstein's first hire in 1987; later KYOT/Phoenix, where her evening Desert Nights show routinely scored No. 1 25-54; top-rated at KOAS/Las Vegas; and iconic KJAZ/San Francisco, among others -- Blake's launch of her new Internet broadcast company, Citizen Planet Productions, is imminent. Among a variety of channels slated to bow is its debut offering: www.SmoothJazzSundayBrunch.comTo sign up for this free channel, click www.BarbaraBlake.com

Veteran Los Angeles broadcaster George Reyes joins Citizen Planet as EVP; Geller Media International President and "Creating Powerful Radio" author, Valerie Geller, is consulting.

At the same time, another venerable format personage, Lawrence Tanter also exits The Wave. He is a fabled programmer whose credentials include L.A.'s KJLH, KUTE, KACE, KJAZ and Westwood One, among others;

suave air talent; voice of the Los Angeles Lakers; co-owner of former NAC/Smooth Jazz KQBR(The Breeze)/Sacramento; and until recently, Wave weekend air talent.. We honor L.T.'s boundless passion for America's indigenous art form -- jazz -- and his incalculable contribution to the format. We wish him continued success.
